Final - Pipe Bird
Finally! Final assignment for 3D! This assignment is way more interesting than the previous one as I think that it require creativity to make it different as we need to make a bird sculpture using a PVC PIPE! It's a group assignment which I'm in a group with Aaron, Yoon and Joshua. This assignment require a lot of cutting and using of carpentry apparatus.
REQUIREMENT
6 Feet tall
6 Inches Diameter
80% of the pipe must be utilise
20% of the pipe need to be removed
It must be able to stand still
No additional of material is allowed
Large Birds
PERSONAL RESEARCH
Before deciding which birds each group is doing, we need to do research personally.
I did my personal research on Cassowary, Flamingo and also Penguins.
and here is my research
I also did sketches for each perspective for each research.
FINALISE GROUP DECISION RESEARCH
We had decided to used snowy owl as our bird sculpture.
PROTOTYPE
In order to have a better image, we make some prototype based on 1:5 scale.
SKETCHES
This is my personal idea sketches, it's not the group finalised sketch.
FINALISED DESIGN x MEASUREMENT
MATERIALS x APPARATUS
PROCESS
MARKING
We first draw the design on the mahjong paper then only we trace it onto the pipe for future cutting.
DRILLS x CUT
We use drill to make a hole on the pipe to allow the jigsaw to enter and cut the pipe.
HEAT x FORM SHAPE x COOL DOWN
We first heat the pipe to make it easy to bend and then we form the shape by bending with glove to avoid getting burn, after we form the shape we want, we cool the pipe down and fixed the shape.
MILLS
We mill away all the dust and sharp incision to give better surface and avoid from getting cut.
BEFORE APPLYING COLOUR
APPLYING COLOUR x SPRAY
FINAL OUTCOME
THE EGYPT-STYLE OWL
THOUGHTS
As I'm the only girl in the group, guys do a lot of works in carpentry as they have more energy and better skills to handle the tools but I still manage to contribute such as helping to mill, hold the pipe for easy cutting, help to form shape and chill down the pipe after forming shape and painting too!
And this is my last assignment for 3D module, I really have fun and gain a lot of new experiences from 3D works. Bye bye 3D 💫
THANK YOU MR ERNESTO!
