For 2D assignment 3 we are asked to do a few type of artwork based on black and white or monochrome, which distribute to a few part which is :

1. Mark Making

2.Black Square

3.Weaving

4.Marbling

5.Mock book

6.Final Black and White book

MARK MAKING

For mark making we can explore different material to create different mark. Every piece of mark making are noted that what material I used to create the mark. For example, I've used rope, finger, broccoli,brush,lotus,cardboard,green pepper,cucumber,baby corn,cherry tomato and etc.

I did two version of mark making which is Black on white and also White on black.

BLACK SQUARE

For this exercise, each square is 5cm by 5cm . we can use any way to create pattern in the square.

For this part, I choose to use cutter to cut out the pattern in the square as it will be more neat and precise. I try some big pattern and some is quite minimmalise .

I also try to use fold and tearing to create different effect pattern.

Beside than using Black paper I also take some black paper to marbling and use them to do the black square exercise. And I try some of the black marbling square pieces with the black background.

I also did some extraction for this exercies .

WEAVING

I really really love this exercise and I did enjoyed myself so much doing weaving.

At first I do weaving using black and white paper, after that I found that it's not that interesting if I only use black and white paper. So I spray some black spray on white paper and I did random weaving pattern using the black spray white paper on the black paper and I find it quite interesting. I also try to use marbling pieces to do weaving and some of them did look good.

MARBLING

I used gloss paint and stick to create all the marbling pieces shown below.

Beside stick I also try to spread the gloss paint by straw and I found that using straw is actually more easy for me to do the marbling.

Extra exploration of marbling on phone cases

During the time when I'm cleaning up of the mess after finishing doing the marbling exercise pieces, I accidentally dirty the corner of my phone cases , and suddenly I pop up an idea of why not just directly marbling the phone cases to see how it will turn up. So I marbling the phone cases and tadaaa 💕🙈 Although it couldn't really stay well and long on the phone case but it's really a good experience to do this.

Before making the real Final book , I've made some simple mock book to test for the way of attaching every pieces of art work and also the abstraction and locking mechanism in the book.

THE FINAL BLACK AND WHITE BOOK

This is how my final book looks like. I've chosen more than 15 pieces of arrtwork from what I've done from the exercises written above to create this final book.

The specialty of this book is that it can open up and make quite some way of combination.

I also make some small abstraction in some of the pages and by that also the book can have some different phrases that you can see different art pieces.

For me, I'm really happy with this book as since young I always wanted to make some book that I couldn't buy from outside and it's interesting fun and creative. Not only creative because of the art pieces but also by the way of the attaching and combination that can be made.
