Sound Wizard -《 A Ratventure of a Lifetime 》

For our CTS last assignment, we are asked to form a group consist of 9-10 member. This assignment is to make a performance based on one sound clip out of four sound cliprovided.

My group consist of 9 member including myself, which is (From left) Joshua, Me, Farah Syahirah, Haziq, Eunike, Sabrina Azman, Tan Qing Ni, Farah Khairin and Andrea .

The main purpose of this assignment is to make a performance full of creative , to be unpredictable and surprising.

At first , we had chosen the first sound clip which gives peoples a feeling of mysterious creepy feel , most of us thought of make a performance about mental illness and creepy experiment of a few doctor to some patient. But after a week, we had another meeting and we decided to change the sound clip and the performance as we feel that it's quite common and quite predictable as this is the first thought of everyone which means that the audience and other group may have the same idea. So to avoid crashing of idea with the other group (which really having a group performing the exactly same performance on the day), we analyse and interpret again all the sound clip provided, and we made our last decision which is sound clip 3 as sound clip 3 consist of quite amount of random sound which make no connection to what kind of theme or feeling you should do based on the sound clip.

MY PERSONAL IDEA

My personal final idea for Sound clip 3 is to make a performance such as parody but by body and action. For my idea , anything can be props no matter a person, object, surrounding object or even own body part.

My idea go this way, every sound in the sound are represent by random action , this is to make it unpredictable. For an example, Drowning sound is represent by the action of stamping your feet, kissing sound is to clap your hand. The rules is that in this performance every action that we make should be what commonly known by people that this action will have that common sound . This also give people a new visual surprise and trick people visually and mentally . And by this , we form a performance. It could be really creative and attractive as we can have any action that we want and we use our group member as prop at the same time.

Group Finalised Idea

So, Our finalised group idea is that we use one of our member Tan Qing Ni's idea and we modify some part of her original storyline. Her first storyline is that one rat is going to buy another rat a present from China and along the way to china, the rat face some challenges under the drain (which is her pathway to china) and at last the rat overcome all the challenges and reached China.

After that we modify the storyline but we kept the main idea, one of our group member gave her idea that one of the rat was kidnapped and the other rat go on her journey to save the rat .So we finalised our storyline as an adventure of saving the Kidnapped rat and we named our performance as 《 A Ratventure of a Lifetime 》.

PERFORMANCE STORYLINE

Rat 2 was kidnapped by a few ninja and she's being hortage at the ninja's place, So Rat 1 which is sister of Rat 2 decided to go rescue rat 2. So Rat 1 started packing her things and her prized possession which is the Katana and a few shurikens, so she can defend herself. While going up the elevator , 4 ninjas were already waiting to attack her . When she finally arrived on the same level, the ninjas started attacking Rat 1, but thankfully Rat 1 is very good at martial arts so she successfully killed the ninja and saved Rat 2. While they were finding their way to get out , 4 ninja suddenly came back to life and started to attack them again. To protect Rat 2 and herself , she used all her shurikens to attack the ninjas and she succeed in killing all the ninjas . After the attack , they both denied to their heart content and dance happily together. The End.

WHAT I CONTRIBUTE FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT

I was originally playing my roles as Rat 2 which being kidnapped, but some conflict occur and we realise that another of my group member which is Qing Ni suite this roles better than me so we exchanged our roles.

After changing roles, I contribute by helping on making props , The ninja's mask, Shuriken and the elevator door.

WHAT PROBLEM WE FACED

Throughout the assignment , we faced some conflict such as

1.we have a group leader which is Eunike who is always late to discussion or practice , wasted a lot of our precious time as we have other assignment needed to be complete too.

2.We are lacked of time for practice as we changed our topic a week after the discussion.

3.Some of us could not make it to practice as we have quite packed timetable and some of them are not allowed to stay back late in campus.

4.Me myself going back hometown during the weekend before the performance weeks to take the props (as I'm originally playing roles of Rat 2).

5.Our group IDJ hand in late as our group leader being very irresponsible not finishing her own IDJ and she did not submit it to lecturer the whole compilation of IDJ and we almost lost 20marks for Section 4 and 5.

HOW WE OVERCOME IT

Althought we faced quite a few problem but still we managed to overcome by

1. (No improvement even after arguement )

2. We try to make time and we discuss and finalised everything and distribute everyone's position in the Whatsapp group chat.

3.Since some of them could not stay back late so we practice on weekend or go to school earlier for practice. And the last day, Our member beg their parents for permission to stay back for practice.

4. Tan Qing Ni replace my roles and keep the practice on going, and this is where they find she is a more suitable person to take the role , so I helped to make the props after I came back from my hometown.

5. We rushed the group IDJ on the spot at the very last due date in the class and submitted without our group leader personal IDJ as she did not turn up in class.

PROPS

Our group have only a few props needed to be make by our own, which is the shurikens , Ninja's mask and the elevator.

The shuriken are made of Black card paper which is hard enough to control when the rat need to throw it out. We searched Youtube for tutorial of making Shuriken.

For the Ninka's mask , we cut the old black T-shirt into long strip of cloth and tie it up.

Lastly , for the Elevator , we make it using card board as main , and A4 paper for the number and to control the arrow pointing to the number , we attached wire to control the pointer.

Fortunately , our performance ended smoothly without any mistake . Although we are not the best but at least we tried our best to make this performance.
